This will be our third meeting featuring the panel of leaders and teachers. Interaction, questions, and comments will be welcomed. This topic in particular should lend itself to some lively and provocative interaction!

The Topic:

One thing that has come to characterize this generation of evangelicals is the church-planting movement. Each of the speakers at this month's meeting have been involved in church-planting over the past few years in and around the GTA and each will bring a unique perspective.

Why should we plant churches? Is church-planting something every pastor is called to? What should be the role of denominations and associations in the planting of churches? Is there a specific way church-planting should be done? What have you learned through your time in church planting? We will tackle these and many more questions as we think about church-planting in the 21st century.

The Speakers:

Dan MacDonald, Senior Pastor of Grace Toronto, was born in Montréal. An avid sports fan, he dreamed of playing professional sports until he looked in the mirror. He graduated from McGill University in ’84, and was accepted into law school at Western. It was there, in his first year, that he became a Christian.

After law school, he practiced law indifferently for several years and felt the call to Christian ministry in 1990. He became a youth pastor and then a campus ministry worker for the next decade. In 2000, feeling called to the pastorate, and headed to Florida for seminary, not Disney.

After seminary, Dan worked as an associate pastor in Jacksonville, Florida, before deciding to return to his home and native land to re-plant Grace Toronto in the summer of 2005. He has been enduring Toronto’s winters, and waiting for her summers, ever since. Dan is happily married to Sue, and God has blessed them with one daughter, Shaila Grace.

Jacob Reaume was born and raised in Guelph, and has served in various capacities among churches in Ontario. Jacob also helped plant a church in southern Indiana, and he pastored a church in central Kentucky. He holds a Bachelor of Religious Studies degree from Heritage College in Cambridge, Ontario, and a Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. In April, 2009 Jacob graduated from the Harvest Training Center for Church Planters, located on the campus of the Harvest Bible Chapel in Elgin, Illinois.

Jacob is currently the Senior Pastor of Harvest Cambridge, and possesses a strong sense of God’s calling to minister in the Waterloo Region. He loves the people of the Tri-Cities, and he longs to see God use Harvest Bible Chapel Waterloo as an epicenter for church-planting and church-revitalization.

Jacob is married to his high school sweetheart, Joanna, and together they have four children.

Habib Sakr is a resident of Markham. He holds a B.R.E. in Biblical Studies from what was known then as Ontario Bible College (Tyndale College & Seminary) and an M.T.S. from Wycliffe College of the University of Toronto, Ontario.

Since 1993 he has pastored churches in Toronto and Markham, Ontario and is the founding pastor of Grace Chapel, which was planted in 2009. The focus of pastor Habib’s ministry is the verse-by-verse exposition of God’s Word.

Habib and his wife, Anna, and their daughter Rachel live in Markham and have dedicated their lives to the furtherance of the Gospel in their beloved city.

What was remarkable about that was the stirring conversation that took place over the hour or so of the panel discussion was that it was far from strictly academic -- the conversation actually made us want to pray more.

So, if the goal of learning and talking about prayer is more prayer and more effective prayer, then I would say this meeting was a success. But don't take my word for it! The speakers lined up for this month bring a diverse set of backgrounds, convictions, habits, and practices to the table as we discuss together how to be more obedient and honouring to God in our prayer life.

We can't wait to experience the new format of meetings beginning in November! We will now be aiming to learn from the combined wisdom of several pastors on a panel as they discuss issues of great importance facing pastors and churches today.

The Topic:

What topic is more relevant for pastors than preaching? For the first meeting of this style we have assembled a group of proven preachers and our aim is to hear from their diverse backgrounds, convictions, and preferences. How does each man prepare for the preaching of God's Word? What are their convictions concerning delivery? What is biblical and what is preference? How does each follow up on the ministry of the preached word? We'll talk about these issues and more, as well as opening up a time of Q&A with you as a group.
